How Melissa McCarthy Handles Her Haters

Let’s get real here—Melissa McCarthy isn’t one to shy away from speaking her mind. In a refreshingly honest interview, the beloved actress opened up about how she deals with the negativity that sometimes comes her way online. Surprisingly, Melissa doesn’t just dismiss her critics; she actually sends them good vibes. “Weirdly, instead of getting mad at them, I always feel like, ‘Oh, I hope you meet someone soon that you can talk to, someone that really makes you laugh,’” she revealed. “I just root for that person to find a little joy.”

Standing Strong Against the Haters

Melissa faced some serious negativity when she took on the role of a lead in the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot alongside Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. The all-female cast was a bold departure from the original 1984 film, which naturally sparked some backlash. But Melissa isn’t one to let negativity bring her down. Speaking to People, she explained, “At one point, I just said, ‘I’m not going to wallow in this anymore.’ It’s not my reality. The men I know wouldn’t act like this. So I look to the men I know, who have made my life better, and I just keep remembering that they’re the norm.”

When it comes to making a difference, Melissa, now 47, admitted, “I’m never going to change things by sitting in my living room crying. That’s not going to fix or help anything.” As a mom of two daughters, Vivian, 11, and Georgette, 8, who she shares with her husband Ben Falcone, Melissa is determined to set a positive example for her kids. “I want my daughters to see me handling life’s challenges with grace and positivity,” she added.

Melissa shared some wisdom she imparts to her daughters about dealing with negativity. “It’s the same thing I tell my girls, ‘If somebody is being mean, they’re probably really not happy,’” she explained.
